Being a first-time author--aside from those 3 horror shorts that were picked up and published in Sirens Call--being included in this incredible group of talented writers has been surreal and an absolute pleasure for me, and I cannot wait for you all to read it.
And now, without further ado, here’s a peek at YOUR MOVE, my contemporary romance mystery contribution to this fabulous boxed-set, written as Rayvn Salvador, my nom de plume. The heroine, Detective Melisandre Watson, is actually a side character from my full-length work in progress, THE RELIC, a thriller that I hope to get back to very, very soon, and which you will be teased about a bit at the end of YOUR MOVE.
Their past is the key to everything, but the move to the future has yet to be made.
Years ago, Detective Melisandre Watson made a decision to walk away from the love of her life, but she never stopped thinking about him. Now, embroiled in the biggest case of her life, she suddenly realizes how alone she really is and wonders about her life choices. It doesn’t matter, though. Vaughn Romano is gone, and no other man has ever made her feel the way he did.
When Mel’s case suddenly takes an interesting turn, she starts to doubt everything in her life. She can’t catch the perp, she has another mystery she can’t seem to solve, and her love life is non-existent. But then fate intervenes, making her face something that she never thought to confront again, and bringing up things and feelings from her past she thought long forgotten.
The onus is on her. The question is, will she make the right move and choose love?
So....there you have it. My baby. I'm really, really proud of this book. It took a lot out of me, especially since I didn't think I would ever write a romance. A horror or thriller, sure. A fantasy as ML Olson or Chelle Eden, absolutely. But not a romance. Yet, here it is. :) There were a lot of self-doubt moments and lots and LOTS of cold sweats along the way, especially after I sent it to some super highly respected industry professionals to review and got feedback. It was tough love, and OH so needed, and the book that you will hold in your hands next month will show that.
So, a BIG shoutout to Liz Berry for telling me how it is--how it REALLY is!--and helping me make this baby shine! To my beta readers Dianne, Marta, Lisa, and Janelle for taking a chance on me and telling me their thoughts in the book's infancy. To my editor, Laura, for picking up all those things that even my editor brain couldn't see. And last but certainly not least, to Kristen Proby for bearing with me as I stuttered and stammered and begged and pleaded for a possible cover quote and then sent her like five different versions to look at (I just sent her the final version yesterday by the way, that's how long I dallied and hemmed and hawed. LOL) and still telling me not to be scared and that I had this.
While I'm here, I want to give an extra-special shoutout to Jen Talty, who took a massive chance on me by asking me to be a part of this anthology. She had never read a word I had written, but had the faith that I could do it and has been my biggest cheerleader going forward. And when she finally got a chance to read what I came up with, her feedback and praise and encouragement made me blush deeper than the pink on that cover that she so graciously made for me. :) When you all read my dedication in YOUR MOVE, a lot of that is for Jen. One of Tigris’ fondest memories, was in the sixth grade, when her teacher read her story, “The Case of The Missing Pepperoni”, out loud to the class. It was then she decided she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. But like all childhood dreams, reality has a way of crashing in and disrupting plans. But her imagination and the voices inside her head never stopped talking. Every dream she could remember was jotted down in her dream journals.
When she’s not writing Tigris marvel’s at life’s gifts. She likes to take pictures of beautiful things. She openly admits that what she may find beautiful another person might not, and she’s perfectly okay with that. She enjoys her music and doesn’t leave home without it. An unfinished series is a very sad thing. As a reader I am devastated when I finish a book and there isn't another one and the story hasn't yet ended. It reminds me of the time I bought a book and for some reason the last page was missing. There I sat, holding that book in my hands and screaming inside, "But I don't know what happened!!!"
When I started writing a trilogy I made a promise to my readers that I would finish what I started. And I intend to do that. Ace Books has opted not to pick up The Nothing so I'm going to publish it independently. However, I would like for the quality of the last book to be at the same level as the first two and good editors don't come cheap.

If you've been a literal addict for awhile, you know how much I adore Rachel Caine and The Morganville Vampires series. I have raved long and loud about the series and how much I love it. So, imagine my immense excitement when I heard that the series was being made into a web series.
When I met Rachel in Miami in February we discussed the series and I was waiting on the edge of my seat to watch Season 1. Well, the wait is over. The series was launched on October 27th and is gaining popularity every day.

Morganville: The Series Revitalizes Vampire Genre Just in Time for Halloween
Rachel Caine’s Snarky Vampires Perfect for Geek & Sundry’s October Line-up
Geek & Sundry: Rachel Caine is adapting her Morganville Vampires books – fifteen (15) total – for a hilarious fright fest of a web series. Each episode of the first season is expected to be 8-12 minutes long, bringing the entire season to about an hour and is freely adapted by Rachel from the first novel – Glass Houses. The first season will begin airing on Geek & Sundry October 27th with a prime schedule planned out… the hope is that the first season finale lands on Halloween day.
Thanks to a passionate fanbase who fully supported the Kickstarter project (and whose funds were then matched by Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry), Morganville Vampires: Book Series became Morganville: The Series and utilized one of the fastest, most innovative platforms for upcoming shows. Through the expansive reach of Youtube, Rachel’s fans can enjoy the show without the long wait that comes through traditional television and also, reach a worldwide audience faster. All around it made the most sense for a book series of this size and caliber.
Even though web series are seen as non-traditional formats, the casting process and scouting for film locations remains normal. Auditions were held in Dallas, LA, Austin, New Orleans and some digital (to give fans of the books a chance at the spotlight too). Rachel wrote all the character monologues for the auditions. The entire show ended up being filmed on location in Dallas, Texas in four separate venues, including a coffee shop, a turn-of-last-century Victorian home, a hospital, and a university. Nearly every episode ends with Rachel’s infamous cliffhanger endings!
Switching from book to film writing was easier than Rachel expected. The very first thing she did, ended up setting the stage for the adaptation process and made it easier for her to focus on the story she wished to tell. Rachel says, “The first thing I tried to do, since I wrote the book in 2006, was to write down everything I remembered from it without re-reading it. That was fascinating, because what I wrote down was really the core story, and that turned out to be what needed to be told in the show. So while I did go back to the book, I did it for the purposes of review, not inspiration.”
Fans might be wondering how a 10-day- shoot in April 2014 could possibly yield a story they recognize, Rachel is confident the series delivers and explains, “For practical purposes, you can only have so many characters in a show with
this running time, so some characters from the novel, while really interesting, ended up not being central to the plot (like Miranda). However, I did think it was important to introduce Myrnin, who is a fan favorite character, into the mix early, so he makes a short appearance this season.
