As you read on our Home page, LITERAL ADDICTION was the brain-child of 2 best friends out of South Florida ("Partners in Crime" [P.I.Cs] as they like to call themselves) who really just wanted to share their passion of reading and all things Paranormal with others. The hope of meeting some cool new people and making some friends along the way was a definite driving factor as well. The name LITERAL ADDICTION was meant to be both literal (no pun intended), and figurative. The word "Literal" is defined as: Of or pertaining to the letters of the alphabet; expressed by letters, and the word "Addiction" is defined as: The state of being enslaved to a habit, practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming. Therefore, the conjunction of the two appropriately described the founding members' passion for books, and it stuck. LITERAL ADDICTION is a Paranormal Book Club. We read the best of the best in the Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy/Dark Urban Fantasy/Vampires/Magic & Wizards/Gothic/Historical Fantasy/Science Fiction Fantasy, etc genres. We LOVE series and tend to gravitate toward them, though we're not 100% sure if that's because there are so many great ones out there to choose from, or because it fits the founders' personalities so well!? You see, Chelle is all about the preemptive research, list making and checking, pre-ordering, and scheduling; which allows her to read all available books in a series in the proper order, back-to-back-to-back and always be ready for the next release. While Jen is much more impulsive. She will pick up a book because it looks good and fly through it, completely unaware that it is book #10 of a series that she hadn't yet started. Then, after another great synopsis catches her eye, she'll immediately move on to that book by another author. While this may sound like the worst possible personality combination, it is actually the perfect partnership! If you start with the fact that they have at least a 95% shared interest foundation, add in Jen's impromptu nature and need to find the next good read quickly, you get consistenly located amazing books that suit both P.I.Cs (Jen's especially good at finding new books by new authors that later become favorites). After that, if you layer on Michelle's overwhelming need to strategize and organize, you ultimately end up with the best and newest books, listed by series and sub-series, in proper reading order, with all upcoming releases pre-ordered to ensure constant reading satisfaction! It's Yin and Yang...Vampires and Blood, Shifers and a Full Moon, Faeries and Glamour, Witches and Magick...you get the idea! ;-) While creating the website, the 'hint & tips'' provided for the content of an "About Us" page was to post something unique about the company or organization. Well for us, LITERAL ADDICTION itself isn't necessarily unique (unless you count the fact that we are a restricted genre book club and only read stuff of Fantasy), but the founding members and the books they read can certainly be! ;-) Just since June of 2011 we've ammassed over 300 Private members and well over 1300 fans/followers, we're scattered across several states (and even in several countries outside of the U.S!). We have over 200 Author Events under our belts, have WELL over 100 more scheduled for the rest of the year, and are having an absolute ball! So far, all participating members of the club have voiced their happiness. From what we've heard, they feel that they have accomplished LITERAL ADDICTION'S goal of sharing the joy of reading, as well as meeting some new people and making some new friends. All-in-all, things have been beyond fantastic so far, and we're VERY excited for what is to come!
